FCC Dataset on Radio Localism Now Available for Download
The SSRC Data Consortium for Media and Communications Policy is
releasing an FCC-collected dataset on the link between media
ownership and the provision of certain kinds of radio content,
including local news and public affairs. The data is part of the
Federal Communications Commission’s response to a Freedom of
Information Act (FOIA) request filed by The Institute for Public
Representation(Georgetown University) in August 2006. The request
asked for studies, contracts, and data relevant to the FCC’s localism
and media ownership proceedings. In response, the FCC released data
relating to a study on radio broadcast localism which was never
completed.
The complete dataset is available for download on the SSRC website.
Please note that this is a large dataset (27 Mb zipped) in .mdb
Access Database format.
For more information about the Data Consortium, please see the Data
Consortium program page or email mediahub at ssrc.org.
