Proposals due by October 15 for Media / Communications Policy Research
Grants
The SSRC is pleased to announce a new round of small grants
<http://mediaresearchhub.ssrc.org/grants/small-grants-project> for
academic-advocacy collaboration in the media and communications field.
This project will provide grants of up to $7,500 for research that
supports efforts to change the media / telecommunications
infrastructure, practices, policies or content. The grants are intended
for short-term work, completable and usable by advocacy partners within
the next 4-12 months. Proposals for this round must be submitted online
<http://www.mediaresearchhub.ssrc.org/grants> by October 15, 2007 by
5PM EST in order to be eligible for funding. Grant recipients will be
announced by November 16, 2007.

The Department of Media and Communications at the London School of
Economics and Political Science invites academics and PhD students to
submit papers to the Media at lse Electronic Working Papers series. Papers
should address the social, political, economic and cultural context of

One-Day Symposium on "The Myth of the Global Internet" October 17 in
Brussels

October 10, 2007, the European Communication Research and Education
Association (ECREA) will host a free symposium entitled "The Myth of the
Global Internet: Unequal Infrastructures, Invisible Controles, Multiple
Cultures" in Brussels, Belgium. This One-Day Symposium precedes the
ECREA Symposium, "Equal Opportunities and Communication Rights:
Representation, Participation and the European Democratic Deficit," held

"Amateur Hour" Conference that convenes leaders in business, law and
technology to address the opportunities and challenges of user-generated

proposals for their Sixth Annual Women's Studies Student Conference, to
be held in Albany, NY on November 29-30, 2007. The conference will

"Communicating for Social Impact" is the Conference Theme for the 2008
International Communications Association conference, being held in
Montreal, Canada from May 22-26, 2008. The ICA has issued a call for
papers for the conference, with submissions due by November 1, 2007.
